Jim’s coffee shops have long been considered a symbol of the Dutch fashion, but this summer the owners of the iconic coffee shop in Amsterdam are opening a second location.
The store, known as Jim’s Espresso and Espresso Coffee, is taking its name from a character in the movie The Goonies.
The shop is the first independent coffee shop to open in the Netherlands, and its owner, Jim Gartner, said the new shop will focus on sourcing local beans.
“We’re opening in a small coffee shop, and we want to give back to the community,” Gartners said in a video posted to Instagram.
“The owners of this coffee shop were very gracious, so we’re really excited to start a new chapter.”
Jim’s espresso and espresso coffees are available in a variety of flavors, from the classic black to the fresh and fruity flavors of the season.
Garters said that since the new location is only a few blocks from his shop, he plans to make sure that customers can access the cafe on their way to work.
The coffee shop is located at the intersection of Amsterdam and Utrecht.
Gretchen Mijsens, owner of the other new coffee shop on Utrechts waterfront, said she hopes the new owners will see the same enthusiasm she had for the first Jim’s.
“I feel like they’re coming from a different direction, which is not the coffee scene that they’ve been involved in,” Mijssens said.
“It’s more a lifestyle-focused shop, which means they’re focusing on a lifestyle that’s really not as popular as other cafes, but I think that’s good.”
